This series of seminars will provide the first public opportunity to engage with "Future Dawning" in the English speaking world beyond the USA, following the drama’s highly acclaimed dramatic readings there in 2016 and 2017 and also, in part, in Dornach (during a conference organised by the Section for the Performing Arts) in 2018.

"Future Dawning, published in 2016 by Steiner Books (USA) and currently available as a book is set in the 21st-century. The play takes up themes of Steiner's Mystery Dramas in a modern life context, the characters in Steiner’s plays appearing in subsequent incarnations. This new drama was originally written following a request to Glen by Dr. James Dyson to write a drama  relevant for the Medical Section following the closure of Park Attwood Clinic (U.K.) in 2009. While some familiarity with Steiner's four dramas would undoubtedly be relevant for participants, this series of seminars is intended to present “Future Dawning" without this or any other prerequisite.  Far from detracting from the contemporary relevance of Steiner’s irreplaceable original dramas, it is rather the hope that this series of seminars may also contribute to engendering further interest in them.

Each session will be devoted to an introduction and then to one of the play’s acts, all of which last about 60 to 70 minutes. These will be read together spontaneously in small groups, followed by prepared contributions by the Presenters, and including some time for conversation. The overarching context of Glen’s challenging drama addresses questions such as the pending incarnation of Ahriman, the dynamics of the renewal of the Mysteries in our time, the relationship between spiritual science and a hypothetical modern Christian church and possible dangers inherent in new etheric (or sub-etheric?) modalities of healing. The drama also highlights many highly contemporary themes, addressing them from a spiritual aspect, such as the connection between spirituality and sexuality and the dilemmas many of us find ourselves facing when confronting issues relating to socio-political administration in an increasingly technocratic world.

The three main presenters are all faculty members of the Association for Anthroposophic Psychology (AAP), itself a member of the International Federation of Anthroposophic Psychotherapy Associations (IFAPA)

  • Vincent Roppolo, an experienced actor, group facilitator and presenter, will host the sessions;
  • Dr. James  Dyson will be making contributions relating to specific karmic and medically related aspects of the play; and
  • Susan Overhauser PhD will explore the play's more specifically psychospiritual aspects.
  • AAP is especially delighted that the playwright himself, Glen Williamson, will be participate in the eight sessions.
Many will already be familiar with Glen’s presentations through his several tours as a storyteller and actor. Glen played the role of Johannes in all four of Steiner’s Dramas in their unique and memorable consecutive production in Spring Valley, USA, in 2014.   Some may have already seen his deeply engaging play “Fire in the Temple” about events in Steiner’s life starting with the burning of the First Goetheanum until his death.

It is hoped that this series of on-line seminars will also provide an opportunity to deepen our relationships to one another through exploring such themes as karma and reincarnation, the prospect of world government, the incarnation of Ahriman, and the Renewal of the Mysteries in a contemporary context, now nearly a hundred years following the Christmas Foundation Meeting. The prophetic nature of Future Dawning has, in many respects, been more than born out by more recent social developments.
